Rules for the car puzzle rally 2026
Every year, there are (new) participants who are unsure about the aim of the puzzle rally; hence this brief explanation.
The organizers have mapped out a route and taken 20 photos along it.
These photos have been printed—in random order—on two photo sheets. Participants must list these photos in the correct order on the competition form.
At the start, each team receives a competition pack containing the competition form, route instructions, photo sheets, a pen, stickers, and a team start number for the dashboard.
The photo sheets display 20 photos numbered 1 through 20, and the front of the competition form features a grid with 20 boxes.
If there are four people in the car, you will receive two sets of photo sheets.
Cars start in the order of their start numbers, with a two-minute interval between them.
After starting, follow the route instructions; along the way, you will recognize objects or landscapes that also appear on the photo sheets.
When you encounter an object or landscape from the route, note down the number corresponding to that photo on the competition form, in the order you discover them.
The back of the form contains boxes you can use for rough notes.
The photos were taken to the left, right, and directly ahead of the car—never behind it.
Enter your solution on the front of the form, along with the recorded odometer readings. Only then can you hand in the competition form.
Please observe applicable speed limits; this is not a race against the clock, though it is desirable to hand in the competition form before 6:00 PM.
Dead-end roads do not count as part of the route instructions, and unpaved roads or private roads are not included in the route. No photos were taken on the major through roads. (This is indicated in the description.)
The team that lists the most photos in the correct order wins.
In the event of a tie, the distance driven will be the deciding factor.
